Forwards Evander Kane and Jasper Weatherby and defenseman Nick Cicek of the San Jose Barracuda were placed in the AHL’s COVID-19 protocol on Wednesday.
Weatherby had just been assigned by the Sharks to the Barracuda on Monday and he and Cicek played in the team’s game with the Colorado Eagles on Tuesday, a 4-1 San Jose win.
Kane, who has eight points in his first five games with the Barracuda, did not travel with the team to Colorado after its game in San Diego on Saturday.
In its news release, the Barracuda said players and staff members are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and in compliance with the AHL’s testing and guidance protocols. A Barracuda spokesman said Wednesday that Weatherby and Cicek will be driven back to San Jose.
The Barracuda’s second game of its back-to-back series with Colorado is still slated to be played Wednesday night.
