AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tommy Fleetwood had a hole-in-one on the par-3 16th Thursday at Augusta National, the 23rd ace carded in Masters history on the hole.
“It was a lovely looking shot,’’ Fleetwood said. “I was in between clubs. I was sort of verging on a smooth 8, then I said hard 9. That kind of fit the shot a bit more. Stood up and hit 9. It wasn’t going straight at the pin, but it was still a great shot, and a couple of bounces and in.
“The course is playing hard up until that point, and I had zero momentum. So it was nice just to kind of do something special and get something out of the round.’’
Fleetwood, who shot a 2-over 74, trails first-round leader Justin Rose by nine strokes.
