Podcaster and MMA commentator Joe Rogan revealed that he’s considering moving to Texas from California if the latter leaves its coronavirus stay-at-home restrictions in place indefinitely.
Rogan suggested that he’s tiring of the state’s seemingly endless restrictions and that the cost of living in California is becoming too expensive for him. He made the remarks on the Wednesday airing of the Joe Rogan Experience.

“If they really say we can’t do standup until 2022… I might jet. I’m not kidding. This is silly, I don’t need to be here.” A stand-up comedian, Rogan expressed frustration with restrictions that would prevent people from attending live comedy events for lengthy, extended periods. Rogan cited his personal friendships as the biggest draws to remaining in California, but cited the possibilities of moving to Austin or Dallas should the state restrictions prove too onerous.
Rogan went on to call his friend Bryan Caplan, who explained that Texas is preparing plans that would prospectively allow live events with a capped attendance limit of 200.
Rogan is the latest high-profile American to expressly consider the possibility of relocating from California to Texas over coronavirus restrictions. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made it clear he’s thinking of relocating the company’s manufacturing from the state to Texas, citing the ongoing closure of the facilities in accordance with the state’s restrictions.
Texas is ramping up a state reopening plan, while maintaining measured restrictions and social distancing guidelines. Los Angeles County officials have suggested they’re willing to keep a stay-at-home order in place until July, a controversial move that would trail well behind reopening plans currently in place in other jurisdictions and could prove devastating to the local economy.
