The coronavirus trends are headed toward a dangerous place, according to a report by the Associated Press.

After weeks of being under lockdown, cases have begun to rise in several regions in the South and West. Experts say that could erase the efforts of the past few months. That’s already being seen in North Carolina and South Carolina, where hospitalization records are being broken, the AP report said. The U.S. recorded a one-day total of 34,700 COVID-19 cases, a number that hasn’t been reached since late April, according to Johns Hopkins University.

States that have recorded jumps in coronavirus cases include Arizona, California, Mississippi, Nevada, Texas and Oklahoma. Critics say Americans grew complacent as some states began opening up early despite failing to reach White House goals. The photo gallery above shows the scenes in states where coronavirus cases are rising. It shows people in casinos and at the beach. Many don’t have masks. Other images show health care workers beginning to feel the beginnings of a “massive outbreak” as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott put it.
