One hundred classic vehicles rolled through four South Bay cities Saturday, bringing cheer to medically fragile children living at home during the ongoing pandemic.
The pediatric home health agency, Coastal Kids Home Care, hosted the first-time event in response to the many activities that have been curtailed during the COVID-19 restrictions.
Ronnie and Jodi Ogas led the vintage hot rods in their yellow 1956 Chevrolet Delivery station wagon while a Shark-themed San Jose Fire Department fire truck brought up the rear.
Pediatric nurse Margy Mayfield started the nonprofit in 2005. It has since expanded services to 600 children in four counties: Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey.
One of those taking part in the ride today was T.J. Rodgers, founder of Cypress Semiconductor. Dressed in a dapper purple sports coat, Rodgers surprised the group after the parade with a $300,000 donation to their capital campaign. The group is looking for a building to offer physical and mental health therapy for their clients and families.
“This is as worthy as it gets,” Rodgers said. “You have to be on the front lines to make things happen, and these people are.”
