The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, in its initial press release, said police responded on Monday to a restroom at Austin-East Magnet High School for reports of an armed student, who “reportedly fired shots, striking an officer.” The other officer returned fire, killing the gunman, who was later identified as 17-year-old Anthony Thompson.
