A fallen NYPD officer who died nearly three decades ago while executing a search warrant at a Queens housing complex was honored Friday.
NYPD officials presented a memorial plaque to the family of housing Detective Alfred Boesch, who was assigned to the Narcotics Enforcement Unit, outside of Police Service Area 9 in Flushing, Queens.
Boesch, 32, suffered a fatal heart attack 26 years ago while executing a warrant at the Astoria Houses on Jan. 21, 1995.
His wife Patricia and their son Dylan, an FDNY firefighter, attended the ceremony along with Detectives Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo, NYPD Housing Chief David Barrere, and Police Benevolent Association housing board members.
“I was extremely honored by the unbelievable turnout today,” Patricia said, explaining how people who worked with Boesch 26 years ago traveled from as far as Delaware to come to the dedication ceremony.
“It was an amazing tribute and a testament to how great a person Al was,” said Patricia.
The dedication ceremony was originally supposed to be held last year, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Boesch served with the then-New York City Housing Authority Police Department for nearly 11 years.
