People who don’t have symptoms of the novel coronavirus but believe they were exposed to someone with the respiratory illness will now be able get checked at the Pepsi Center, where Denver has a free, drive-up testing site.
The expansion of the guidelines regarding who can get tested comes at city officials also are urging the thousands of people protesting in downtown Denver to get tested. Under the new rules, essential workers who are asymptomatic will also be able to get tested at the site.
“Increasing access to testing in Denver has been a huge priority,” said Mayor Michael Hancock in a statement. “Ramping up capacity and access for more people, including those not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, is critical to staying ahead of this pandemic and putting our city on the road to recovery.”
Symptoms of COVID-19, which can appear between two and 14 days after exposure, include fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, and nausea, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
People who want to be tested must first register online or by calling 311, and be prepared to get tested within 24 hours. Testing is open to anyone, not just Denver residents.
The testing site is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle, Denver.
