Coronavirus: Confirmed number of COVID-19 cases rise in San
Mateo, San Francisco 1

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases continued to rise over the weekend in San Mateo County and San Francisco, health officials said.

Neither county added anyone to the list of fatalities in their updates Monday morning.

San Mateo County added an additional 48 cases to its total, bringing the number of diagnosed patients to 1,281 since the pandemic began. The county did not update its list on Sunday, so the average of 24 additions per day since Saturday came after health officials there added 20 to the list Saturday.

More females than men have caught the virus in San Mateo County, with 687 (54%) having been infected. Health officials also said that 51% of the victims (656) are between the ages of 30-59.

The county also reported that 61 people were hospitalized with the virus, and that 17 of them were in the intensive care unit. The county had 61 percent of its ICU beds available and 94% of its beds and 92% of its ventilators available for a surge in cases.

In San Francisco, 1,624 people have tested positive, and 22 were added to the list Monday. That number was less than half the number of patients (59) added to the list on Sunday.

Health officials said half of San Francisco’s patients caught the virus within the community, and that the virus has hit males hard. Two of every three victims have been male, and 56% of all the patients have been between 31 and 60 years old.

San Francisco hospitals were treating 90 COVID-19 patients on Saturday, the day health officials last updated those totals, and 30 were in the ICU. The city had 37% of its ICU beds available and all 312 beds it may need in case of a surge of cases.

Santa Clara, Alameda and Contra Costa counties were expected to provide updates later Monday.

Health officials for seven Bay Area jurisdictions announced rules for the new stay-at-home order last Wednesday. Some rules vary from county-to-county but the orders are generally the same throughout the region.

The original stay-at-home order ran through Sunday.
