The number of active COVID-19 outbreaks in Colorado fell this week for the first time since late March.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment defines an outbreak as two or more cases linked to the same location or event. An outbreak is only considered over when four weeks have passed with no new cases.
The state reported 859 outbreaks were considered ongoing as of Wednesday, down from 870 a week earlier. At the previous low point, on March 31, the state reported 578 outbreaks.
Most settings had declining or roughly stable outbreaks, with the exception of restaurants, which added 13 clusters.
The biggest declines were in nursing homes, where outbreaks were down by 14; assisted living facilities, down 11; and schools, down seven.
Those three settings had seen the largest increases during the spring wave, with most cases in students and in staff of long-term care facilities.
