A British man has been arrested for allegedly failing to self-isolate amid the coronavirus outbreak and faces three months begin bars, according to a report.
The unidentified 26-year-old was held after arriving on Thursday in the Isle of Man, according to the UK’s Metro.
The self-governing British Crown dependency between Great Britain and Ireland passed emergency legislation earlier this week and authorities have been told to arrest anyone who fails to isolate for 14 days.
The suspect, the first Briton to be arrested for allegedly violating quarantine rues, faces a fine of up to 10,000 pounds – about $12,000 – and a jail sentence of three months.
The Isle of Man has just confirmed its first case of COVID-19.
“We are taking action to protect our residents and to ensure life can continue as normal as possible during this unpredictable time,” regional chief minister Howard Quayle said.
“We are advising against all non-essential travel off the Island, and the measures being introduced from tomorrow are aimed at minimizing the risk of those arriving in the Island infecting our population.”
