Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon announced Wednesday that he has tested positive for coronavirus.

A staffer at the governor’s office at the Wyoming State Capitol also tested positive. The office was closed Tuesday for a deep cleaning.

Gordon, a Republican, said he intends to work remotely as he quarantines.

Nearly 26,700 Wyoming residents have tested positive for the illness, and 215 deaths in the state have been linked to COVID-19, according to state data.

Gordon, less than two weeks ago, blasted some Wyoming residents as “knuckleheads” for not taking the pandemic seriously.

“We’ve relied on people to be responsible, and they’re being irresponsible. They think somehow this is all nonsense,” he said at the time.
