The US recorded more than 100,000 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday — the most ever tallied in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic, according to a report.

Data tracked by The Washington Post shows that at least 104,004 new infections were reported Wednesday.

That’s after 88,902 new cases were identified on Tuesday, and 85,371 on Monday.

At least 9,479,500 cases of the virus have been reported in the US since Feb. 29.

The nation has recently been seeing a troubling surge in infections.

Over the last week alone, the average number of new daily reported cases rose by 16.1 percent, according to data analysis by the newspaper.

The number of tests conducted was about 5 percent higher than the previous week, and the positivity rate was 6.8 percent.

Hospitalizations are also seeing a worrisome spike.

At least 17 states on Wednesday reported a record number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19, the report said.

Nationwide, COVID-19 hospitalizations rose by 13.4 percent over the past week, the data shows.

At least 233,535 Americans have died of the virus since the pandemic started.
