According to a study released Thrusday, American spy agencies are observing the global spread of the coronavirus and are concerned about how some countries such as Iran and India, could respond to a major outbreak.
- Worries in Iran stem from the lack of response to the outbreak, which already infected at least 257 people and killed 24. Iran reported its first case only 9 days ago.
- Worries in India stem from a lack of countermeasures to the virus. The country only has 3 reported cases, but they believe that with its dense populate it could fuel a more widespread outbreak.
So far the role of intelligence agencies has been monitoring the global spread and assessing the various government’s responses. The intel agencies say they also provide necessary information to health agencies and the CDC.
According to the news organization, agencies track the coronavirus’ impact through a range of methods from eavesdropping devices to undercover informants.
