President Trump on Tuesday urged members of Congress to pass a coronavirus relief bill that would replenish the small business loan program and said aid to state and local governments would be included in the next stimulus bill.
“I urge the Senate and House to pass the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act with additional funding for PPP, Hospitals, and Testing,” the president wrote on Twitter.
“After I sign this Bill, we will begin discussions on the next Legislative Initiative with fiscal relief to State/Local Governments for lost revenues from COVID 19, much needed Infrastructure Investments for Bridges, Tunnels, Broadband, Tax Incentives for Restaurants, Entertainment, Sports, and Payroll Tax Cuts to increase Economic Growth,” he added.
Senate Democrats and White House officials are close to announcing a final deal on a expected $470 billion bill that would send funds to the Small Business Administration for the Paycheck Protection Program that went broke last week after it was overwhelmed, The Post reported Tuesday.
It would also supply much-needed funds to hospitals on the front lines of the battle against the coronavirus and for new testing initiatives.
The new legislation could pass the Senate later Tuesday, clearing the way for a vote in the House on Thursday.
