'The Masked Singer' Eliminations: Who Is the Season 4 Winner Hiding Behind The Sun Costume

The fourth season of The Masked Singer was full of lavish costumes and thrilling moments—not to mention some of the best voices ever heard on the Fox singing competition. But it all came to a blazing end Wednesday when the final three contestants were finally unmasked.

Season 4 contestants Mushroom, Crocodile and The Sun saw the competition to the bitter end while judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger tried their bests to guess who was hiding behind each of the masks, but all was revealed in the end when The Sun proclaimed The Masked Singer winner. Meanwhile, McCarthy took home the coveted judges award, the Golden Ear trophy for having the most correct first impression guesses.

Of course, that didn’t happen before the last standing contestants hit the stage to perform one last time. Crocodile was the first to sing and he delivered a heartwarming rendition of Journey’s “Open Arms” while Mushroom dished out an energetic, and fun, cover of the Stevie Wonder hit “I Wish.” The show’s winner, The Sun, belted out a beautiful rendition of Brandi Carlisle’s “The Story.”

As for the unmasking, judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger were a lot more confident in their guesses than when they were first introduced to Crocodile, Mushroom and The Sun. After all, they did have weeks of clues to help inform their guesses.

Crocodile’s identity was the first to be revealed. The judges had a chance to change their first impression guesses— Bradley Cooper, Jordan Knight and Nick Carter were some of the names the judges first suggested at the beginning of the season but by the finale, names like Nick Lachey and Howie D were top choices.

After a few chants of “Take it off!” Crocodile finally revealed himself. Turns out it was Nick Carter all along.

“I had to pull every trick that I had out of the bag and I knew it. There are some very talented artists on this show, and I’m just grateful to be here,” Carter said. “Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to share my story with you all.”

All of the judges decided to switch their first impression guesses for Mushroom. Originally Jong thought the singing fungi was Justin Timberlake, but some of the clues in Mushroom’s reel over the course of the season led him to believe it may be Pharrell hiding under the mask. McCarthy initially guessed Maxwell was posing as Mushroom but switched her answer to Ne-Yo. Both Thicke and Scherzinger changed their first impression guesses to Aloe Blacc after originally believing it was Donald Glover or Billy Porter under the mask.

In the end, Thicke and Scherzinger were right. Blacc was the one hiding under the sparkling mushroom head costume.

“Music is truly the language that connects us all and I got a chance to experience that and do just that here on this stage,” Blacc said.

The judges decided to change their first impression guesses to The Sun as well. Early on in the competition each of the judges thought people like Demi Lovato, Mandy Moore, Kate Hudson, Katherine McPhee or Carrie Underwood may have been posing as The Sun. However, LeAnn Rimes was the leading contender.

She finally did remove her golden-ray mask, and it was Rimes all along.

“This has been an overwhelming experience. I didn’t expect this to be this much work. I have to say. I was thinking this will be easy, this would be fun. And it was a blast,” Rimes said.

Rimes added: “I’m just happy to be here. It was so much fun.”

Rimes joins former winners of The Masked Singer including T-Pain, Wayne Brady and Kandi Burruss.
