STANFORD — As state and county COVID-19 orders continue to loosen, Stanford University has announced it will start gradually reopening its arts and athletic venues in April.

In a recent notice to the campus community, Stanford said that on April 12 it will begin to open outdoor spaces that are part of the its arts and athletics zones.

Though it may seem a little desolate these days, the Stanford campus does have some graduate and undergraduate students roaming its halls. And with juniors and seniors returning to campus residence halls for the spring quarter, the campus is slowly coming back to life again.

After first opening to the campus community, the Anderson Collection and the Cantor Arts Center will allow the public to come in — at 25% capacity — starting April 21. Stanford’s Frost Amphitheater will also reopen in the spring with outdoor movies, and during summer it will transition to live performances, the notice says.

Stanford students, faculty and staff will get a sneak peek at the newly reopened museums first, with a special preview weekend April 16-18. The public will be allowed inside the school’s museums starting April 21 from Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The school will give out free, timed tickets required for museum admission a week before the opening. The Anderson Collection will only be opening its first floor galleries on May 2 before closing for the summer for maintenance and artwork reinstallation. The collection will reopen in the fall.
