SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco police sergeant was stabbed in the face during an arrest and two other officers were injured in a separate incident while breaking up a fight, authorities said.
Police responding to reports of a stabbing in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood were pursuing a suspect on foot Saturday when he allegedly produced a sharp metal object and stabbed a sergeant in the face, San Francisco police said Thursday.
The suspect, 40-year-old Mike Anderson, of San Francisco, was arrested by two other officers after a struggle. The sergeant was taken to the hospital, where he received eight stitches in his face, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Last Friday, a separate incident involving two families in a dispute ended with an unknown chemical being sprayed and an unknown liquid being thrown, according to police. Two officers attempting to break up the fight were hit by the liquid chemical and spray, suffering minor burns and temporary vision loss.
Regina Cole, 29, and 23-year-old Tyresha Blake, both of San Francisco, were arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of assault with caustic chemicals, police said.
“Recent attacks on San Francisco police officers over the weekend are unacceptable, and they merit our city’s most aggressive response,” Police Chief Bill Scott said in a statement.
