Parades and other city events scheduled for June are unlikely to proceed as the coronavirus crisis continues — but a final decision has yet to be made, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Friday.
The city has already announced that all city-permitted events scheduled for May will be canceled.
The Pride Parade and the Puerto Rican Day Parade are among the events set for June.
“I don’t see it for June, but we’re going to have the conversation carefully and then have an announcement real soon,” Hizzoner said.
De Blasio said he suspects a lot of organizers “don’t feel confident that they could do the events properly, they don’t feel confident that they could keep them safe.”
“I suspect some of them are going to say, ‘We just don’t feel good about it,’” the mayor told reporters.
“We’ve got a lot we want to get done to be safe for June,” de Blasio added. “We’re talking to people who organize those really big events. A lot of them spend the whole year planning them. We’re talking about them now. It’s an important decision to make, whether it makes sense to have them or not.”
