The coronavirus has forced the NFL Physicians Society to stop physicals for players, the group told the league and the players association, according to NFL Network.
The decision could put a pause on official roster moves as free agents await physicals to officially sign contracts with new teams, and draft prospects may need to be reevaluated by teams after the NFL scouting combine.
NFLPS president Dr. Anthony Casolaro said in the letter obtained by NFL Network the suspension will last “until the health crisis has passed.”
“We believe it is not in the interest of the players nor team medical staff to continue to perform these physicals,” Casolaro, the Redskins’ head team physician, wrote. “At a time of the most serious pandemic in our lifetime, we believe medical resources should focus on those who are ill or in need of care.”
