The number of New Yorkers hospitalized with COVID-19 has hit its lowest level in more than a month.
There were 7,804 patients in the hospital Friday, a reduction of 133 from the previous day, Gov. Cuomo said. It’s the lowest number of hospitalization since Dec. 27.
The state’s COVID-19 positivity rate was 4.31 percent, the same as the prior day. The positivity rate in New York City Friday, measured on a seven-day average, was 5.09 percent, slightly up from a day earlier.
There were a total of 158 deaths statewide Friday including 72 among New York City residents.
New York had received 2,632,385 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and had administered 2,064,183 as of late Saturday morning, the governor said, adding that 111,316 doses had been given out in 24 hours, including at a newly opened mass vaccination site opened at Yankee Stadium. The tallies do not include those vaccinated at nursing homes.
“Super Bowl weekend is here and while the instinct may be to celebrate together, we cannot get cocky – we must continue doing the things we know are effective at taming the virus: wear a mask, adhere to social distancing, and avoid gatherings,” Cuomo said.
