NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Nashville Mayor John Cooper announced Tuesday that he would be in quarantine after his wife, Laura, tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a news release, Laura Cooper is not exhibiting any symptoms. Cooper’s office did not disclose whether the mayor had tested negative or how long he would be in quarantine.
“Mayor Cooper will follow CDC-recommended best practices,” his office said in a statement. “Mayor Cooper will work remotely as he quarantines at home.”
There were about 1,221 new cases per 100,000 people in Tennessee over the past two weeks, which ranks third in the country for new cases per capita, according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University. One in every 152 people in Tennessee tested positive in the past week.
Meanwhile, Tennessee has seen 7,267 COVID-19-related deaths to date. That death count is the 15th highest in the country overall and the 20th highest per capita at roughly 107 deaths per 100,000 people.
