The Morrison Town Board unanimously approved Tuesday night an agreement with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office that calls for the sheriff’s office to provide law enforcement duties in the town.
The sheriff’s office will now assume duties including routine patrols, traffic enforcement and criminal investigations, according to the agreement. “The Parties (JCSO and Morrison) understand and agree that the manner in which the sheriff’s office provides and prioritizes these services in relation to … other law enforcement responsibilities throughout unincorporated Jefferson County will be at the sheriff’s office’s sole discretion.”
The sheriff’s office plans to have an around-the clock presence in Morrison and the town will pay the JCSO $24,000 monthly, per the agreement. Either party may terminate the agreement with a written 30-day notice.
