De La Salle will try to play its season opener against St. Mary’s of Stockton, originally scheduled for Friday night in Stockton, on the Spartans’ home field in Concord on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The teams had hoped to play at St. Mary’s at 11 a.m. Saturday after Friday’s postponement.
But because of poor air quality in Stockton, school officials decided to move the game to the Bay Area in hopes that conditions will be playable on De La Salle’s field.
The AQI on Saturday morning in Concord was 123. Anything above 150 is considered dangerous.
The teams played at De La Salle to open the abbreviated spring season in March.
De La Salle won 35-27.
Elsewhere, Las Lomas and Rancho Cotate have moved their game Saturday from Walnut Creek to Santa Rosa because “the air seems a lot better there,” Las Lomas coach Doug Longero said.
That game Saturday is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
St. Francis’ rescheduled game Saturday at Central Catholic-Modesto was canceled because of the air conditions. The teams waited as long as they could Friday before postponing the game to Saturday, but the air quality index did not improve.
