French President Emmanuel Macron has decided not to lock down France for a third time as the country continues to log upward of 24,000 new infections daily.

Beginning Sunday, France will close its borders to all non-essential travelers outside the European Union. Those traveling within the EU, must show a negative coronavirus test before re-entering.

But Macron stopped short of ordering all businesses to close.

“I have confidence in us. These hours we are living through are crucial. Let’s do all we can to slow the epidemic together,” he tweeted Saturday.

France reported 24,393 additional positive COVID-19 tests on Friday.

A recent poll showed growing frustration with the vaccine rollout there, and widespread belief that another lockdown was inevitable. As of Saturday, just 1.45 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered. Israel, by comparison, had administered 3.5 million a week earlier.
