Officers on the safety team, along with those in patrol, crisis intervention, critical response, traffic and mass transit units now are equipped with one of the department’s 8,200 cameras, spokesman Don Terry said. The cost of operating a camera comes to $780 per officer, Terry said. That works out to about $6.4 million a year.
