The impeachment investigation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo will address reports that he improperly arranged coronavirus tests for his relatives and others, the lawmaker in charge said Thursday.
Assembly Judiciary Chairman Charles Lavine (D-Long Island) called the potential violation of the state Public Officers Law “a serious matter” that “will certainly receive attention.”
Reports on Wednesday alleged that Cuomo’s brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, their mother, Matilda, and public officials with ties to the governor all received tests for the coronavirus in March 2020, before they were widely available to the public.
Section 74 of the state Public Officers Law makes it illegal for a state officer, legislator or employee to “use or attempt to use his or her official position to secure unwarranted privileges or exemptions for himself or herself or others.”
