At least one Cook County correctional officer, Sheila Rivera, a 47-year-old correctional officer, has died from COVID-19-related causes. After Rivera died, authorities said they were investigating whether another officer, Antoine Stewart, also died of the novel coronavirus, but the Cook County medical examiner’s office later determined he died of unrelated natural causes, according to the office’s public case archive and its tally of confirmed COVID-19 deaths, which does not include Stewart.
