The CDC on Wednesday confirmed the first possible coronavirus case by “community spread” in the U.S. The CDC is unaware how the California resident could have contracted the virus. Clinicians in the California public health system has picked up the case.
“At this time, the patient’s exposure is unknown,” the CDC said in a statement. “It’s possible this could be an instance of community spread of COVID-19, which would be the first time this has happened in the United States.”
The California case brings the total number of cases in America to 60. Many of the cases are from people who were evacuated from Wuhan, China or the Diamond Princess cruise ship recently quarantined off the coast of Japan.
