The popular statewide Bustang bus service will resume service this weekend, with buses rolling across Colorado highways for the first time since the service was suspended due to COVID-19 at the end of March.

Bustang’s Outrider service, which serves many far-flung areas in the state, will resume Sunday, while weekday service on the more heavily traveled Bustang routes picks back up Monday. Visit ridebustang.com for specific route, schedule and fare information.

The Colorado Department of Transportation, which operates the service, is putting in place a number of cautionary measures to deal with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. They include certain seats being blocked off to keep Bustang buses at a 22-passenger maximum and Outrider buses at a 16-passenger maximum.

Face masks will be required for drivers and passengers, and drivers will be issued additional personal protective equipment. Passengers will be offered hand sanitizer wipes when boarding.

Buses will be cleaned and disinfected upon completion of each route, including all seats, safety belt buckles, front and back head rests and armrests.

“We have carefully monitored when to safely resume serving our Bustang and Outrider customers and are doing so now, with significant precautions in place that follow guidance and best practices from public health officials,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “We ask passengers to purchase tickets in advance, to the extent possible, so that we can minimize physical interactions with drivers and maximize social distancing.”
