We just received the Jackery Explorer 500 Power Station. It’s a much bigger unit than the Honda 290 Power station that we already have. It’s still lightweight, but it’s much heftier than the 290. The new one is going to be a holiday gift for my parents, since they don’t have a generator (we do). Power outages are a part of life in the Northeast, like many other areas. Whether due to strong storms, hurricanes, heavy snow, or just random unexpected issues, we prefer to be prepared. We’ve gifted smaller Jackery Power Banks to many family members over the years. We carry them everywhere, so that we don’t have to worry about using up too much phone battery. These Power Stations can do much more.I haven’t had time to test the number of phone charges it can get – it boasts 30+, but I have tested it out on my MacBook Pro 15 inch. My laptop is more demanding than the ones they tested, so it can be re-charged about 4X with a charge taking about 1.5 hours (I was using the laptop at the time, so I’m guessing it might be faster and do more otherwise). A smaller one would get 6+. Still, this is great! I would never charge my laptop from our generator. I wouldn’t trust it. Jackery is a safe way to charge your electronics during a power outage (or while camping, for those of you who like to get away from the city). It can even be used to power a tv (not my priority, but I know it will be for some! One note, the 290 is a bit sensitive, so we are careful not to push plugs in too hard. I don’t know if the 500 is similarly sensitive, but it’s worth being aware. Jackery customer service is excellent, should you have any need to contact them.If you add the solar panels, your ability to stay charged is limitless. This is a great device and would be an incredible holiday gift for anyone. Perfect for Chanukah, under the Christmas tree, or for any celebration! We highly recommend this Jackery Explore 500 Power Station! Whatever holiday you celebrate, this would make someone very happy!

The Jackery Explorer 500 is a solid, well designed product. The unit is rugged and compact with nothing on the exterior to break off or catch on nearby objects. The display shows charge level, charging wattage, and use wattage, all very handy. The pure sine wave inverter provides a clean AC supply at 110V, 60 hz. The unit charges in 8 hours with the AC wall charger, and 12 hrs with a 100W solar panel. Solar charging is ultra simple, requiring no charge controller on the panel, simply an MC4 to 8mm connector from the panel. Pass through charging is awesome, gives the ability to charge and use the unit simultaneously. DC socket provides a solid 12V (actually 13.4V) to ensure your 12V devices have full voltage as the battery discharges. The unit can run as many devices as you can plug in at a time in the 12V, 120VAC and USB sockets, as long as it doesnt go over the 500W max. The 6 hour socket timeout for loads less than 10W is still an undesirable feature. Running a ceiling fan or diesel heater in my van, the unit shut off sooner than desired. Jackery is working on extending the timeout time, but until then the problem can be solved by adding an additional load (cell phone charging or light) to get load over 10W and avoid the unit shutting down. The price is on-par with other portable power units at about $1 per watt hour. As mentioned, the battery is lithium ion, which has only 500 use cycles vs. LiFePo batteries at 2000. However, I dont think any LiFePo units are available at $1 per Wh, so the price is fair for the product. Thats only $1 per charge cycle!Note that inverter losses are real. I ran a desktop monitor from the AC plug with the typical AC/DC adaptor, and the unit drew 58W. I then plugged the monitor into the DC plug with 12V to 16V step up convertor and the draw was 30W. So use DC whenever possible…This is all around a great product with a combination of features superior to other portable power units you might find on Amazon. Jackery has prompt customer service to back it up.

I live in Florida and this is a must have for power outages, camping, and hurricane preparation. It’s so much easier than a traditional generator. It’s also a much cleaner solution and easier to have available when needed. The display screen is very helpful as far as knowing whether or not it’s fully charged. It has ample outlets and ways to charge it as well. I have to to also get the solar panels. I cannot wait for my next camping adventure to use this.

A group of us guys wanted to get the perfect gift for our camping and outdoor enthusiast friend and we landed on this for a multitude of reasons. First off, the build and quality feels very commercial grade and able to withstand some good usage. The design is rugged yet aesthetically looks modern and contemporary but clearly it means business given how many multiple output and charging options it has. The backlit screen is clear and shows all essential information such as charge and discharge rates, battery state of charge and etc. Check out the video for the unit walk around and how it looks up close. Given what it can handle, it’s still incredibly portable (very solid weight to power ratio) and easy to move around with no nonsense exterior bits to break off or anything protruding. One of the main reasons we sprung for this is its ability to be paired with a solar panel to charge it in that way – this is an option that is only available on higher end units. For those who are true camping off the grid for an extended period of time this is essential and lets you not have to draw from your vehicles power. The solar charging, as expected, is the longest method in charging which brings me to the next point – it’s ability for pass through charging which renders that not as significant. I didn’t find that stated as much until I found out, but it’s a feature that not every unit has but one that’s very important. You needn’t have it at full charge or off charge to be able to use it because you can power devices while that’s happening. Basically you can be charging the power station with a solar panel and at the same be charging all your other goods – it’s a bigger deal than one would think. Pro tip: you’ll get fantastic performance through the 12v port so if you have the option to, get items that use that as its source. The reason for this is that the 12v port has a boost regulator, which means that no matter what state the batter is in (even if it’s low) it’ll still output the same power no matter what which is something many solar generators does not do.The usefulness of something of this grade is pretty endless. My partner got it confused with looked to be a similar product at costco but if you know your stuff, the specs are exponentially different – the 500 watts is continuous power (with a 1000 peak) so it can pretty much power any steady device. Aside from the most obvious of devices you’d want to power (laptop, phones, tablets, etc), the list just goes on – electric blankets, specific fridges, tool batteries, fans, grills, tvs, video consoles, small blenders, pumps, small heaters an even a cpap machine and a e scooter! In operation it’s quiet with barely a hum and using the volt adapter will turn on the cooling fan. Even more hard to please electronics we’ve randomly plugged in have been fine, and we’ll test in the future with an oscillator and update.Aside from camping use, he’ll be bringing this to the burning man festival to use full time in his adventure roadtrip van so that’s quite a bonus. He can now ditch having to lug around liters of gas or a big watt inverter generator making the entire experience that much more eco conscious not to mention lightening the load. Additionally, while it’s great for the big events, this is going to get a lot of use for a wide range of regular every day events such as tailgate partys, roadtrip and just general outdoor excursions. It’s even great to have around for emergency purposes. We have a very satisfied recipient and we’re glad such a product exists – highly recommend!

I must admit I bought this item on a whim after watching YouTube. I already had a DIY power center (I refuse to call these things “solar generators” because they do not generate any power on their own). My DIY unit worked well, but it was bulky. And I wanted more power for an electric blanket. The Jackery 500 is solidly built. It is one of the few units of its kind to have a regulated 12 volt output, so the voltage won’t sag when the battery is low. The inverter is pure sine wave, which is important for sensitive electronics. The light on the side is nice, but I would rather not have it and pay a little less. I don’t see much practical use for it. The 500 makes a pretty heavy flashlight. But it would be good for emergencies. One big advantage of this product over my DIY is the display. Wonderful. I can tell at a glance how much power is going in or out. Important when you are boondocking with solar panels and every watt counts.I use a 12volt refrigerator when I camp, and the Jackery is perfect for this. I plug the fridge into it, and into my car’s 12 volt outlet. The 500 can charge and supply power at the same time. So when I stop the car, the fridge still has power.I wish the 500 could charge a little faster, but that is an issue common with all similar products.

After reading the specs and reviews, I finally decided to buy the Jackery 500w power station. Now my family has a dedicated charger for all our electronics and AC devices when we go camping instead of using my car battery. I don’t have to worry getting stuck in”no man’s land” because the car won’t start due to a dead car battery. When we are not camping, I can use the power station as a battery backup when we have blackouts at the condo. Unfortunately, it’s an old building and power interruptions occur several times a year. The power station is solidly built yet light for the amount of power it stores. Portability is important to me. You can recharge the power station by AC plug, 12V cigarette lighter socket, or solar panel. Recharging by solar panel and being off the grid is a great benefit but I have not tested that yet since I need to save up money to buy a panel. Whether being charged or recharging and running devices, the unit stays cool to the touch because of its internal fan. Also it has over-voltage protection and over current protection which is essential to protect your investment.I tested the power station and it works great. I plugged in several devices such as a laptop, iphone, etc… at the same time or individually and they recharged/ran with no problem. I also ran my 48” TV off the station for several hours with no problem as well. The only thing I wish the power station had more off are AC outlets. You can’t have enough AC outlets so you can power more devices at the same time

This portable power station is amazingly light for a unit that can supply so much power. Build quality is good and it feels very sturdy. Not worried about carrying it around outdoors or dinging it. So glad that this unit uses lithium batteries instead of traditional lead acid, which are so heavy. The multiple USB charging ports, 12 volt output and AC inverter is very convenient and pretty much covers all my needs. The pure sine wave AC inverter works great for all my electronics and was able to power my old 20 inch TV without any issues. The 12 volt port is great for running my air compressor to pump my bike tires, car tires and my portable cooler when im on the road. The power adapter for charging this unit worked great and im glad there is a DC input port to allow me to connect my mini solar panel for a longer term off grid solution. The built in light is not to bright but I can just connect a larger light through the 12 volt port. Will definitely be bringing this power station o my next camping trip. Very impressed with the power station so far and would recommend it.

  8. Jessie

This power station is light weight, it is easy To carry and very powerfull. I plugged it over the night and when i woke up in the morning it was already full charge. I tested it with a projector, my computer screen and some of my tools. It works for things less than 500 watts. It is Perfect when i go hunting and I can carry it easily in my stand. There’s no power at my cabine when I go hunting and this power station is really usefull to power up some device. It it also great for camping! It is also great when you need to power up something instead of using a big long power cord, I just need to bring this power station closer! You’ll see you’ll need it more than you think I swear!

  9. Tony

The build quality is amazing and will last for the intended purpose which is to be used for camping or outdoor event. This unit provides 500W and is sufficient to power variety of small appliances and electronics.I am able to power a laptop, projector and speaker for a outdoor movie night. Look forward to using it during road trips and camping trips during the summer. With the provided recharge options, I can charge in the car, ac outlet when I am in a room or even outdoors when I acquire a solar panel.

  10. Clickable Tech

This battery backup seems pretty good so far. The first time I charged it using the wall adapter I was able to run my entire office setup which included 3x 32″ RCA TVs I use as monitors, a desktop computer, my soundbar, a security camera, an alexa echo dot, and a FireTV totalling on average 175w for a period of about 3 hours and was greatly impressed considering the load I was testing it under. However off my second charger of the unit I plugged in my phone charger via the USB port and my laptop via the AC port and nothing else and the battery% dropped 2% in just a few minutes. This may have been due to the high demand of my laptop battery being dead but I still do not think this would be more of an issue than my entire office setup. I will continue to monitor the results and update as necessary. The unit is very lightweight for it’s power and I hope this will be the best addition to my kit I have made.

I purchased this for off grid cabin use. It works as advertised, but the 2 12 volt output plugs are poorly thought out. I contacted Jackery to get the specs on the plug to build DIY cables, and was told it’s 6.5mm x 1.4mm. They also said it is intended for DIY use. Unfortunately they chose a plug spec that is nowhere to be found. There are lots questions on Amazon.ca and Amazon.com about the plug size, and the different answers demonstrate the lack of definitive documentation. So far, nobody has posted links to where the proper plug can be purchased. If it is intended for DIY cables, they should have chosen a more common plug spec. Very frustrating to have a power station with 2 power ports I can’t use. It’s my one gripe so far, but it limits the utility enough to drop at least one star.

  12. NomadHonda

I did receive the Jacker Portable Power Station Explorer 500 already. It came right away. What do I think about it so far? It looks just the way it is described. Brand new and it came with car charger cable, wall charger cable, a simple guide, and a small pouch to carry the charging cables. I have not used it so far but I fully charged it as it was only at 20% charge when I got it. It is very simple to understand and use. This is the first-ever product that I used from Jacker and it is very simple and very easy to operate. A bit heavy for backpacking or hiking trails. However, if you are into car camping and off-road rigs then this is the perfect gear to get if you really do not wish to spend thousands of dollars. I will do a full review of this item and give my unbiased opinion about this item on YouTube.

  13. Bluenose47

I ordered this unit to provide short term power to lamps and small appliances, plus recharging of phones and tablets, in the event of a power outage. Reviews and ratings were impressive. The price is high but so is the capacity of the unit. It arrived 30% charged and after topping up my phone to test that function, I fully charged it. That night, I plugged in my CPAP machine and ran it for 7 hours. In the morning, remaining capacity was 15%, so I am well satisfied with the performance. Based on this short time of ownership, I fully recommend this product.

  14. Wilderness Warrior

Being chargeable from 12V battery, wall outlet or a 100W+ solar panel, this versatile 500Watt solar generator is virtually silent, non-toxic and safe to use. Love it!!

  15. Amazon Customer

Three methods of charging and very easy to use. Compact and powerful. Has only one AC outlet but works ok with a power bar. Expensive so it lost one star.

  16. Dave

I purchased this unit to cover me in the event of a power failure. I have a very active sump pump and thought this would get me through a power failure and if it runs low I would charge it from my car. Very happy with the unit and have used it so far to charge very batteries used for power tools. Excellent unit.

  17. Graeme S Kaberry

Nice small unit, purchased it with a 100W solar cell to charge it without mains power. Worked a treat! Haven’t tried to use it heavily, but it seems good.

  18. K

absolutely amazing if your a van dweller or camp a lot then this is a great buy and worth paying the money for, we have our tv plugged into it no problems, great product overall.
