Portland protesters were filmed tossing a Molotov cocktail at a group of police officers during violent Breonna Taylor protests Wednesday night.
Video shows one protester hurl the lit makeshift explosives at the officers, sending cops in riot gear scattering to safety as flames burst on the ground.
One officer was hit on the foot, but a fire department medic put out the flames, according to police. There were no reports of injuries or arrests in the attack.
Demonstrators in the city also set small fires and threw rocks during a night of nationwide protests over a Kentucky grand jury’s decision to not indict officers in the fatal shooting of Taylor.
Thirteen protesters in Portland were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of a host of charges, including attempted murder, attempted assault, riot, interfering with a police officer and disorderly conduct, police said.
Federal agents deployed to protect a US courthouse in Portland were on hand Wednesday night and fired projectiles at the protesters, according to The Oregonian.
Portland has seen ongoing protests for months since the death of George Floyd. Demonstrators are expressing fresh outrage over the decision involving Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, who was sleeping in her apartment on March 13 when cops burst in while executing a warrant.
The officers exchanged gunfire with Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, who believed the couple was being burglarized. Taylor was struck six times and died in her hallway.
The Portland protest started peacefully but descended into chaos around 10 p.m. when the Portland Police Bureau declared a riot, Willamette Week reported.
