It was only last week that the U.S. reported a single-day rise of 50,000 cases for the first time. Then later in the week, the U.S. reported more than new 55,000 in a single day, breaking the previous global record at the time, which had been held by Brazil with more than 54,000 cases on June 19, according to NPR.
