Turkey nears the 100,000-case mark as they see over 2,200 deaths; Turkey has managed to test over 700,000 people so far.

Turkey has now surpassed Iran as the number one COVID-19 infected country in the Middle East, though there is significant speculation surrounding Iran’s reported number of cases. Turkey is approaching the 100,000 mark with over 95,000 confirmed cases and 2,200 deaths. Istanbul is reported to be the primary area of infection at this time.

On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced another weekend curfew for what is said to be the third week in a row. Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca took to Twitter saying, “We must be as persistent (in battling COVID-19) as the virus. We will win this war with the self-sacrifice of our health army and our insistence in steadfastness to precautions.”

Between Monday and Tuesday, over 240 people died from the virus. Approximately 14,000 have recovered so far over the span of the pandemic.
