Shake Shack, the New York City-born burger chain, expanded its reach in Colorado and beyond Tuesday, opening a long-in-the-works location in Denver International Airport.

It adds booze to the mix with the standard burger and fries.

On the B Concourse mezzanine, the new location is the cult favorite franchise’s sixth in the Denver area. Marketing itself on 100% all-natural Angus beef patties, crinkle-cut fries, craft beer and frozen custard, the company first landed in the Mile High City in 2018 with a location in the city’s River North Art District, or RiNo.

Now it joins other highly sought-after brands like Snooze An A.M. Eatery on the B Concourse mezzanine, the focus of trendy dining on the passenger side of security at DIA.

The chain, now competing for diners with the likes of fast-expanding West Coast favorite In-N-Out Burger in Colorado, will try to entice international and domestic passengers alike with its first-ever bar concept, according to a news release. The menu includes a whiskey-spiked shake and a specialty margarita.

Jen Winchester, who through her company JAF Concessions is a co-operator of the airport Shake Shack, touted the full-service bar when reached by the Denver Post on Wednesday. JAF is bringing another cult favorite, Voodoo Doughnut, to DIA later this year.

“It was so incredible to see all the happy faces at Shake Shack when we opened yesterday,” Winchester said in an email.

Shake Shack will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at DIA. The restaurant will employ 60 people, airport officials say.
