SAN JOSE — A tech company that provides autonomous vehicle technologies has more than tripled its space in San Jose and says it’s in both hiring and growth mode.

Cepton Technologies has leased a big office building in north San Jose that totals 92,000 square feet and will serve as the company’s new headquarters.

“When I co-founded Cepton five years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined us growing so fast,” said Mark McCord, the company’s chief technology officer.

San Jose-based Cepton has leased a building at 399 W. Trimble Road in San Jose, the company said. The building totals 92,000 square feet.

“Space for research and development, manufacturing and testing as well as corporate offices” will be located in the West Trimble building, Cepton said.

Cepton is exiting a headquarters complex on North First Street that totals 24,400 square feet. The company expects to be in the new headquarters by the end of this month.

The company’s technology provides advanced software for use in lidar systems, which are a radar-like, laser-based technology that is used in autonomous vehicles.

“The new office building is in some ways a reward for everyone at Cepton who has worked so hard to make our success possible,” said Jun Pei, Cepton’s co-founder and chief executive officer. “I cannot wait to welcome customers and partners to our new headquarters.”

Executives at Cepton also believe the expanded and more attractive headquarters complex will help the company recruit more workers.

“I am very proud that we have built one of the best lidar teams in the industry, but our thirst for talent will never cease,” McCord said. “With the new headquarters, we’re ready to welcome more aspiring professionals who share our vision of making lidar an essential sensor in every vehicle and smart system.”
