MONTEREY — A Salinas woman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of biting a Monterey police officer through two layers of clothing hard enough to cause a bite injury to the officer’s arm.

Laura Brown, 34, of Salinas, was booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of public intoxication and felony battery on a peace officer resulting in injury, police said.

Police responded to a report of a drunken woman refusing to leave a business. When police arrived, they allegedly saw Brown strike a man in the face while standing in a parking lot. The man said he did not know Brown, but that she tried to enter another person’s car without permission. When he intervened, she attacked him, police say.

The man did not pursue charges against Brown.

Police arrested her on suspicion of public intoxication, and because of her level of intoxication, she was taken to Natividad hospital for evaluation. It was there that she allegedly kicked an officer twice in the leg. When officers tried to put her in a police car, she bit one officer on the forearm.

Brown’s bail was set at $10,000.
