According to the activists, the “Red House on Mississippi,” as the property is called, has been owned by the Kinney family since the 1950s. The family paid off the house but took out a second mortgage in 2002 to pay for a defense attorney after a family member was arrested. The property was eventually foreclosed upon and a developer bought the house at auction in 2018. However, the Kinney family has been fighting eviction orders.
