New York’s COVID-19 positivity rate nears 4 percent 1

New York’s statewide coronavirus positivity rate has inched close to 4 percent.

The overall rate, including virus hotspots, was 3.98 percent Friday with 6,063 people testing positive, according to numbers released by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Saturday.

The number of people in the hospital with COVID-19 reached 3,287 including 433 who were newly admitted. There were 42 deaths.

The positivity rate in New York City Friday was 2.9 percent.

“We are entering a challenging period of sustained COVID-19 spread across this state,” Cuomo said.

Mayor de Blasio tweeted Saturday that the city’s seven-day rolling average for coronavirus cases was 3.64 percent, up from the previous day’s number of 3.33 percent.
