New lows seen in New York’s COVID-19 infection rate 1

New York’s COVID-19 positivity rate continues to slide, hitting numbers not seen since November, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday.

Of the 232,942 tests reported Friday, 3,725 — or 1.6 percent — came back positive, the lowest since Nov. 3, Cuomo said.

When measured on a seven-day average, the statewide positivity rate Friday was 1.89 percent, the lowest since Nov. 6. It was 1.83 percent in New York City, down from 2.42 percent one week earlier.

The number of those hospitalized with COVID-19 Friday dipped to 2,729, the lowest since Nov. 22, Cuomo said.

There were 25 deaths from the virus Friday including 13 among residents of the Big Apple.

New York has administered 15,549,389 doses of the coronavirus vaccine and 34.6 percent of state residents have gotten the full series of jabs, Cuomo said.
