NORTON, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts police officer has been placed on administrative leave after he was charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident that left a woman injured.
Norton Officer Joshua Archer, 31, was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Attleboro District Court. It was not clear if he had an attorney.
Police responded to reports of a crash in Norton at about 1 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from local police.
Police determined that an SUV was taking a right turn when it sideswiped car stopped at a traffic light.
The driver of the car told responding officers that she had spoken to the other driver but he left the scene. She was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Police located the SUV and arrested the driver, identified as Archer. He was not hurt.
Archer has been a member of the Norton Police Department for eight years, police said. An internal affairs investigation is underway.
