A House Republican introduced a bill Friday that would make those convicted of violence, looting or vandalism in connection with a protest ineligible for enhanced coronavirus unemployment benefits, Fox News reports.
The “Support Peaceful Protest Act” would also make rioters “financially liable for the cost of federal policing,” according to the bill, which is sponsored by U.S. Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind.
As our nation is burning and the opposition openly calls for more violence and chaos in the streets, the silent majority sits and waits to see if they will need to lace up or if The White House will find a way to quell the violence.
“Antifa thugs are descending on suffering communities, disrupting peaceful protests and leaving violence, looting and vandalism in their wake. They turned Milwaukee, Seattle and Portland into warzones, and now they’re moving the chaos to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Who knows which community is next?”
“ Many rioters have time to participate in violence because they are unemployed people receiving government benefits — including increased federal benefits for those who have lost their jobs amid the pandemic.”

“Due to [these] enhanced federal benefits, taxpayers are giving wages to jobless rioters that are destroying our communities. We need to cut them off from their funding and make them feel the full financial consequences of their actions.”
“What we’re seeing happen in big cities and around the country are angry violent mobs showing up at federal properties, tearing down monuments on federal properties, especially in Washington, D.C. and it’s got to stop. What my bill would do is add new consequences to those individuals who are breaking the law,” U.S. Rep. Jim Banks said.
Banks said he introduced the bill the day after an older couple who are his constituents were harassed by protesters while leaving President Trump’s nomination acceptance speech at the White House on Thursday evening.

Here are the basic penalties proposed in the bill:
SEC. 2. ORDER OF RESTITUTION.
In the case of an individual convicted of a Federal offense related to the individual’s conduct at and during the course of a protest with respect to which a Federal law enforcement officer was engaged in policing activity, the court shall, in addition to the penalty for such conviction, order the individual to pay an order of restitution to the appropriate Federal law enforcement agency in an amount that is equal to the cost of such policing activity, as determined by the court.
SEC. 3. INELIGIBILITY FOR ENHANCED FEDERAL UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS.
An individual convicted of a Federal offense related to the individual’s conduct at and during the course of a protest, is ineligible for any Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation under section 2104 of the CARES Act (15 U.S.C. 9023) or any other Federal supplemental unemployment compensation during the COVID–19 public health emergency (as such term is defined in section 2102 of the CARES Act (15 U.S.C. 9021).
One of the key parts is, “convicted” because these cities and these politics in these Democratic ran cities are not convicting those they are arresting. It is a great idea but it certainly needs better clarity and to be written more open to target those whose who participate in the riots and looting as well as any violence.
