Known for his passionate outbursts and expletive-filled rants on shows like “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Kitchen Nightmares,” celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is a formidable presence in the culinary world, operating award-winning restaurants scattered across the globe. In late 2021, he’ll open his first restaurant in Boston: Ramsay’s Kitchen, located within the Mandarin Oriental hotel.

According to a press release, the 7,000-square-foot restaurant will include a bar and lounge, a dining room, a raw bar, two private dining areas, and a seasonal patio. The all-day menu will take a global approach, featuring some of Ramsay’s favorite dishes from his restaurant group, including beef wellington and lobster and clam bouillabaisse.

Ramsay’s Kitchen will take over the former Bar Boulud space, which closed in June 2020 after the coronavirus pandemic severely impacted its operations.

“I absolutely love the energy of Boston and consider it a premier dining destination in the country,” Ramsay said in a statement. “This will be my first-ever Ramsay’s Kitchen, and I couldn’t be more excited to open it inside the Mandarin Oriental, in the heart of Boston’s vibrant Back Bay neighborhood.”

Ramsay’s Kitchen is part of Gordon Ramsay North America, which operates 10 restaurants in the U.S. The Back Bay newcomer will be able to seat more than 180 guests and will employ more than 160 people.

In an Instagram message announcing the concept, Ramsay said he’ll be putting together dishes using “the amazing ingredients that New England has to offer.”

“Boston, trust me, I can’t wait to see you inside Ramsay’s Kitchen for breakfast, lunch, or dinner,” he said. “And one final message: Go Sox!”
