CPS officials said clerks, who answer phones, enroll students and help hand out computers, need to be in school buildings to do their jobs — along with administrators, security officers, custodians, engineers, warehouse staff and food service workers. They pointed out that any employee can apply for a leave of absence or an accommodation, such as permission to work from home.
