That’s when the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will begin arriving in states, government officials said Saturday.
Shipping companies UPS and FedEx will deliver Pfizer’s vaccine to nearly 150 state locations, according to Army Gen. Gustave Perna, the COO of the Trump Administration’s Operation Warp Speed.
Another 450 sites will get the vaccine on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Perna said the vaccine was timed to arrive Monday morning so that health workers would be available to receive the shots and then begin giving them.
About 3 million shots are expected to shipped initially with a similar amount to be held in reserve for a needed second dose.
The vaccine is being trucked from Pfizer’s manufacturing plant in Kalamazoo, Mich. and then flown to regional hubs around the country.
It will be boxed with dry ice and shipments will be tracked with GPS-enabled sensors.
The FDA signed off on the emergency use of the vaccine Friday night.
