Fact Check: Biden claims no riots, no National Guard under

WILMINGTON, DE- Joe Biden left his basement bunker on Thursday to talk to Democrat Party state media MSNBC and proved once again why he should be playing pinochle and shuffleboard at the senior center in Wilmington, Delaware instead of running for president.

As violence continues to spread across the country and destroy cities both large and small, Biden accused President Trump of being part of the problem.

It was interesting because last week at the Democratic National Convention, neither Biden, his running mate Kamala Harris, or anyone else mentioned the violence that has been exploding across the country for nearly three months.

Perhaps Biden saw polls showing that Americans are tiring of the anarchy, or perhaps the polls showing that he and President Trump are now in a virtual tie for the White House, despite the post-Republican National Committee polling hasn’t been conducted yet. Whatever the reason, Biden finally climbed out of his basement retreat and addressed the violence, Fox News said.

In an interview with Andrea Mitchell, Biden tried to compare the state of the United States during Obama’s second term with President Trump’s first term, however conveniently forgot (or honestly he probably just didn’t remember) a number of major events which took place during the time he was vice president under Obama.

For the last four years, we weren’t having riots, racial riots,” he said of the second term. “When they occurred, we didn’t have to call in the National Guard.”

Oops Joe…forgot that little old Ferguson thing. You remember Ferguson, don’t you Joe? That’s the one where Michael Brown assaulted a convenience store clerk, stole merchandise in doing so, and then got into an altercation with Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

Remember Joe, that’s the one where Brown assaulted Officer Wilson then tried to steal his gun, then paid for his stupidity with his life. Remember Joe?

You must remember what happened after that incident. That was the one where violence overtook Ferguson, and where Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon had to call in the National Guard.

In so doing, Nixon said, “Tonight a day of hope, prayers, and peaceful protests was marred by the violent criminal acts of an organized and growing number of individuals (sound familiar?), many from outside the community and state, whose actions are putting the residents and businesses of Ferguson at risk.”

Nixon’s statement continued, echoing similar statements made by President Trump in speaking to recent events:

“I am directing the highly capable men and women of the Missouri National guard to assist…in restoring peace and order to this community.”

Later that year in November, the National Guard was once again deployed Joe, this time when a grand jury did its job and voted not to indict Officer Wilson in connection with Brown’s death.

Not to be outdone, criminal thugs in Oakland took the opportunity to also express their outrage, where dozens were arrested.

Just over five months later, Joe, the city of Baltimore—you know, right down the street from Washington, DC and not far from Wilmington, Delaware endured several nights of rioting, shopping, er looting, and arson in the wake of Freddy Gray’s death while in custody of the Baltimore Police Department.

Once again, the National Guard was activated, this time by the governor of Maryland.

The activation of the Maryland National Guard was the first time in nearly 50 years they had been called up for a civil disturbance. The riots resulted in more than 200 arrests, and a nightly curfew was imposed in the city.

Finally, Joe, in September 2016, protests in Charlotte, N.C. took place over the death of Keith Lamont Smith which turned violent.

Once again, the National Guard was activated by North Carolina Gov. Pat McRory, who declared a state of emergency after the chief of the Charlotte Police Department asked for additional help.

During his appearance on MSNBC, Biden claimed he would be a so-called “fact-checker” for the president in real time when they debated one another, thus dismissing suggestions from some, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi that he should decline to debate the president. Some people suggested that Trump’s claims should be fact-checked in real time, thus Biden’s comment.

Biden made his claims in response to advance excerpts of President Trump’s acceptance speech that he was to deliver on Thursday night at the Republican National Convention.

“We have spent the last four years reversing the damage Joe Biden inflicted over the last 47 years,” the president is expected to say. “At the Democrat convention, you barely heard a word about their agenda. But that’s not because they don’t have one. It’s because their agenda is the most extreme set of proposals ever put forward by a major party nominee.”

What else did Biden lie about during his interview with Mitchell, which she failed to correct him on?

The Charlottesville “very fine people” hoax. This of course is false, as the president’s comments were taken completely out of context by cleverly edited clips of his comments.

This has been repeatedly debunked, but Biden repeated it. The president was of course referring to “very fine people on both sides” in reference to non-violent protesters who were on both sides of the issue at hand, removal of the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a local park.

Biden also claimed that the president had done “nothing” about COVID 19, once again not true.

The president instituted a China travel ban, then one on Europe, both moves criticized by Biden himself as xenophobic. Coronavirus task force, CARES Act, Payment Protection Program, Operation Warp Speed on vaccines and therapeutics, Defense Production Act, mobilizing two Navy hospital ships, one to New York, one to Los Angeles; mobilizing the Army Corps of Engineers.

Trump did plenty and continues to do so.

He claimed that President Trump had spoken about “injecting bleach.” That one is so stupid and inaccurate we won’t even address it, but suffice it to say there is a big difference between “disinfectant” and “bleach.” Nor had the president talked about “injecting” anything.

Biden said nobody mentioned the coronavirus at the Republican National Convention—that is a lie. The president specifically mentioned and honored medical professionals on the front line on Wednesday night, while the First Lady also mentioned and shared the grieve of those families who have lost loved ones; Vice President Mike Pence also mentioned victims.

Joe, let us introduce you to “Operation Warp Speed.” Despite your claim that the administration has no plan for distributing vaccine for COVID-19, the goal is to distribute 300 million doses of vaccine to the entire country. The Department of Health and Human Services contains full plans and documents on their website.

The biggest load of horse manure was Biden’s claim that Kellyanne Conway had said Republicans were encouraging violence because it helped them politically. From Breitbart, her exact quote was:

“The more chaos and anarchy and violence reigns, the better it is for the very clear choice on who’s best on public safety and law and order.”

That is certainly not encouraging violence, and the statement came on the heels of Conway mentioning that Democrat mayors and governors had refused the administration’s help to quell the violence and looting.

Finally, Mitchell herself, as of course part of Democratic state-run media lied and said that Jacob Blake, the man killed in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was never mentioned during speeches at the RNC. In fact, Pastor Norma Urrabazo offered an opening prayer in which she said:

“Lord, we come before you to ask for your spirit of peace to come over hurting communities in Wisconsin tonight. We pray for healing and comfort to Jacob Blake and his family. We pray for your protection over those who put their lives in harm’s way to bring safety and security to our streets.”

This is about what one would expect from MSNBC.

Meantime Joe should escape from his basement bunker occasionally. He might get a clue about what is really going on.
