Denver officials opened an emergency 24-hour shelter Thursday for women and transgender people experiencing homelessness as the weather turns colder.
The city-owned shelter at 1370 Elati St., can house up to 40 people and will remain open until Tuesday, Derek Woodbury, spokesperson for Denver’s Department of Housing Stability, said in a release.
The emergency shelter serves as an overflow for the Samaritan House shelter at 2301 Lawrence St., Woodbury said. Those seeking shelter at the Elati Street location should first go to the Samaritan House.
Males seeking shelter should go to the Lawrence Street Community Center at 2222 Lawrence St., Woodbury said. City officials provide transportation to different shelters from that site.
