A Sept. 10 article in the local section about the pending demolition of a historic jail in Martinez and the county administration building contained several errors. The article incorrectly characterized which building Supervisor Karen Mitchoff was referring to when she said the demolition would be a poignant moment for her. Mitchoff was referring to the county administration building, not the jail. The article incorrectly reported that Supervisor Candace Anderson questioned the costs for a new administration building. Anderson asked county staff how much it would cost to keep the jail after noting that some residents wondered why it couldn’t be saved. Finally, the article said the new administration building likely would retain a wall from the old jail. The park plaza area likely will retain that wall.
