Health officials reported 65 new positive tests, meaning the county has added 144 new cases in 48 hours increased its count by nearly 50% since the week began. The countywide total grew to 453, while the death toll remained at 10.

San Mateo reclaimed the dubious position of being second to Santa Clara County for the most cases in the Bay Area. San Francisco had earlier surpassed San Mateo, but it has reported fewer cases the past two days than its southern neighbor has on either day.

On Wednesday, a nursing home in Pacifica was reported to have five cases and one dead in what a spokesperson called a “fluid” situation. Countywide, there are at least eight assisted-living facilities with positive tests that are working with state and federal officials.

With Thursday’s update on the peninsula, the Bay Area climbed over 2,600 total cases and the state inched closer to 10,000.
