Population-wise, Weld County ranks ninth in Colorado, but its COVID-19 case and death rate per 100,000 people is the highest of the 10 most-populous counties in the state.
In raw numbers not adjusted for population, its case load ranks fourth and its total deaths ranks third. Nearly half of the deaths in Weld County can be traced to outbreaks.
El Paso County is the state’s second-largest by population, but ranks eighth in case rate and seventh in death rate.
Early on it had one of the higher death rates in that group of counties, but beginning in early April, deaths in other counties accelerated at a faster pace.
